N-Propyl Bromide (nPB) Considerations

Our EnTron-Aero™, GenTech™, and EnTron™ n-propyl bromide (nPB) based solvents are advanced non-chlorinated, non-flammable solvents, ideal for cleaning a broad range of common manufacturing contaminants, including greases, lubricants, and fluxes. Contact us today for a free test sample.

However, if you need to replace your nPB, we also offer AeroTron™, an npb replacement, which is a comparatively economical comprehensive vapor degreasing and precision cleaning product line that is US EPA SNAP Approved and has an excellent health and safety profile.

The favorable price point, environmental, and performance benefits of n-propyl bromide as a solvent for industrial applications was first realized in 1995. Since then, n-propyl bromide has progressively gained adoption for industrial use to replace trichloroethylene (TCE), methylene chloride, 1,1,1 trichloroethane (TCA), and perchloroethylene (PERC).

Better Equipment, Automation and Better Work Practices for n-Propyl Bromide

Recently n-Propyl Bromide has had some developments in the toxicology arena, most specifically a National Toxicology Program Test Study that found cancer effects in mice and rats. As such, closer regard to minimizing operator's exposure are warranted. Operator exposure to solvent vapors in any vapor degreasing application can be minimized by:

  1. Better Equipment - The ULTRA™ Line has NESHAP compliant features that enhance solvent vapor containment.

  2. Automation - With automation, the operator's interaction with the solvent is minimized. The basket of parts is processed without any activity of the operator except the loading and unloading of the part basket. We are pleased to offer our BHE and BHS Lift Systems to complement our ULTRA™ Vapor Degreasing Systems.

  3. Better Work Practices - specifically the orientation of parts in the vapor degreaser, so they properly drain, as well as cleaning cycles that ensure that the parts are free of liquid solvent prior to being removed from the vapor degreaser. Good practice with the closing of lids, spraying of solvents and filling, emptying and operation of the vapor degreaser.

Advantages of N-Propyl Bromide

  • Favorable Economics - comparatively reasonably priced

  • Excellent drop-in replacement for chlorinated based solvents like trichloroethylene, trichloroethane, perchloroethylene, and methylene chloride

  • Non-ozone depleting

  • No flash point and non-flammable

  • Can be used as a cold wipe solvent as well as a vapor degreasing solvent

  • Not NESHAP regulated

  • Approved by the US EPA Office of Air and Radiation's Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP)

  • Not considered a hazardous waste. However, it does need to be disposed of properly and not disposed into the ground water system..

  • Our EnTron™ and GenTech™ based nPB conform to ASTM D6368 which provides specification and requirements for technical-grade nPB.

  • Easily distillable and recyclable

  • Our EnTron-Aero™ base nPB conforms to ASTM D6368 and is Boeing approved for use under BAC5408.

Proprietary n-Propyl Bromide Product Lines

Our EnTron™ products are non-flammable azeotropes manufactured for critical applications where achieving virtually zero residue is a necessity. These products are kept to an extremely tight specification to ensure repeatability in the most critical cleaning applications. EnTron™ products are extensively used in the electronics industry in themanufacture of printed circuit boards (PCB's), in precision vapor degreasing and ultrasonic cleaning of complex parts and electronic assemblies, in flushing compressed gas systems and oxygen components, precision optics applications, extraction testing including asphalt extraction, and in NDT testing, among other applications. EnTron™, EnTron™-CE (critical electronics), and EnTron™-AE (asphalt extraction solvent) are stock items and typically ship the same day.

Our GenTech™ product line is also non-flammable and features formulations with extended-bath life and enhanced cleaning performance for demanding applications typical in metal fabrication, masking, and pre-treatment applications. GenTech™ is highly effective in cleaning organic contaminants such as oils, greases, lubricants, coolants, drawing fluids, adhesives, waxes, and flux residue. In terms of bath life and cleaning efficacy, try GenTech™. It will outperform the best of our competitors. All of our GenTech™ products are stock items and typically ship the same day.

N-Propyl Bromide for Industrial Applications

N-Propyl Bromide cannot be used as a neat component for any industrial application. It needs to be formulated to inhibit corrosion of ferrous and white metals, inhibit hydrolysis, achieve and sustain an azeotrope in reflux applications, and achieve compatibility with other components in carrier and other deposition applications. In addition, in many applications various ingredients and application methods will greatly enhance the performance of the n-propyl bromide composition and enhance the useful life of the product. We are experts in these matters and support our customers' use of the product throughout its entire life cycle: from the initial consideration and pilot testing, to full production implementation, followed by in-house solvent maintenance with our custom Solvent Test Kits.

Custom Formulation

Custom formulation of n-propyl bromide is achieved based on your needs and accomplished and quality controlled at our manufacturing facility in Illinois. If you have a specialized application that requires a custom formulation, our chemical / technical staff will design a custom formulation to meet the specific demands of your application.

Toll Blending and Private Labeling

If you have a formulation that you desire to have blended for you and to a specific quality specification, we regularly provide these services and provide all of the necessary analytical data for you to have confidence in the quality of the product for your customer or for use in your application.
